Distinguished, (Dead) UK Gentleman, seeks 'My Fair Lady'.

I'm always amazed at the pictures spammers, scammers, and fakes will use on dating site profiles. Some are of obscure celebrities, others are of people 75% of the world will recognize.
Here is a spammer, or scammer, who tried to register a profile at AsianLonelyHearts.com, using a picture of the late actor, Rex Harrison.

1965verdugo@steamrailways.com
IP: 46.22.219.116 (Estonia, but claims to be in Taiwan, in the city of 'Hamburg Poppenbuttel')
Username: AlRobson

I can imagine he likes to talk to animals, take long rides in his yellow Rolls Royce, and doesn't worry too much about rain, in Spain, except when he is on the plains.
I think I've got it!

You should expect all dating sites to keep garbage (Not you, Rex) like this spammer/scammer out. AsianLonelyHearts.com is a small, free site that checks each new profile. Most sites do not!

How do you avoid internet romance scams?

Don't send money to somebody you only know from the internet, or phone calls, period.
There is no way around this. The person who is asking you for money will not die, or come to harm, or you will not miss out on millions of dollars they are promising to give you. Don't send money!
Always expect to see a face on webcam, and learn to use Google Image search!
How stupid are you going to feel when you finally realize the person you are in contact with is fake, and using stolen pictures? Some people will never accept the truth, and will die thinking the famous celebrity in the pictures used by the scammer, who actually is a millionaire, stole a few thousand dollars from them. Don't be gullible. Expect to see a face on cam. This will filter out most scams. (although some scammers do have video of 'that face' they can play over a webcam, making it appear that person is live.)

RESEARCH! Along with getting in the habit of checking pictures you see on dating sites with Google Image search, do a search of email addresses of new 'friends' you meet on dating sites. You may be surprised what you find.
Do you really want to feel stupid? Fall for a scam that has been reported online previously. Same face, same story. These scams are not sophisticated. They are fairly simple. They count on the victim being trusting, and gullible. Don't be that victim!

I also use SPOKEO. It lets me see any possible social network sites that email address may be connected to, pictures, and more.
Search anybody by name, e-mail address, phone number, online username or even friends in your address book and instantly return lots of info.

filipinaislandgirls.com Too many fake and scammer profiles. Keep out!

There's no logical innocent reason for a paid dating site to have scammer profiles, and other profiles, using stolen pictures of celebrities. Either they don't check the pictures, or they don't care.
A third option is they allow, or set up the fake profiles to attract paying customers.
filipinaislandgirls.com has too many fake profiles, as well as profiles of REPORTED scammers to be safe.
Keep away from this site.

matchdoctor.com Too many scammers!

I've been looking at Matchdoctor.com the last few days, a free dating site, and see too many obvious scammers to recommend this site to the public. It's actually crawling with scammers, mostly West African scammers, pretending to be men, and women.
I suggest you keep away from Matchdoctor.com!

idatevietnamese.com Keep out!

idatevietnamese.com is a site operated by the same people as pinaydarlings.com. The site has very few vietnamese as menmbers, and does not screen out 'fake' profiles set up by West African scammers. The laughable thing is, some of these scammer profiles are 'featured members'.
There's no excuse to run a dating site like this.
Keep out!

Globalsingles.com Keep out

Globalsingles.com appears to be a free, filipino dating site, that hasn't really taken off. I see many profiles on globalsingles.com that contain stolen pictures, and many of these profiles are operated by West African scammers. This profile pretty much indicates that whoever runs globalsingles.com, either doesn't know what they are doing, or doesn't make any effort to keep scammers and fake profiles off of the site. The lady in the stolen picture used on this profile is the very popular pinay actress, Anne Curtis. She is easily recognized by most Filipinos.
Then we have a profile using the picture of the porn model, Raven Riley. Her pictures are in heavy use by West African scammers.

These are just two examples of fraud I can find quickly on globalsingles.com, and there are many more. Keep out.

AsianDateLink.com Major fraud!

Keep far away from AsianDatelink.com! It's a paid site that not only is clogged with West African scammers who have figured out how to get free messages with email addresses or phone numbers to members, but it appears the site has chat bots that send out fake messages to men, to encourage them to pay for memberships.
Keep out!
Most of female profiles appear to have stolen pictures. These ladies are not members, waiting to talk to you, (if you pay) but the pictures are stolen from various net sites, including porn sites. This is not your grandma's White Pages! Find anybody's email address, photos and videos instantly!

Office affiliated with idateasia.com raided in the Philippines, fraud alleged

Police in the Philippines province of Cebu have raided a 'call center' with ties to the idateasia.com dating site, and are investigating allegations of fraud, pornography, and trafficking.
Workers at this 'call center' have admitted they were engaging in fraudulent activities to get men to pay for messages with 'fake' women, memberships, and more.
More information at Dragonladies.org
Guys, using these 'pay per message' sites is not smart. There are too many occurences of fraud. The few dollars you may spend per message, can add up to a serious income stream for a fraudulent person, site, or agency.
Find anybody's photos, videos and blogs instantly. You may be surprised!

Watch out for 'visa and travel' scams from Cambodia!

'Visa and travel' scams are not common out of Cambodia, but they are starting to pop up. They appear to be conducted by West Africans who are residents of Cambodia. West Africans also conduct scams while living in other SE Asian countries, like China, and Malaysia.
The scammer will have a local Asian lady to help with the scam, usually answering phone calls from men they meet online, and posing as the girl in the stolen pictures they are using.
You will be asked to pay 'visa and travel' fees for the girl in the pictures to come meet you. The girl in the pictures the scammer uses is not involved in the scams. You will never meet her. The lady you may talk to on the phone is not the girl in the pictures! The person who picks up the money you send, is not the girl in the pictures. Your money is gone. It's a scam.

Both of the recent 'visa and travel' scams I've run into lately, involved the fake lady claiming to possess a passport, from Singapore, which if true, would make travel to the USA or other Western Country, possible. This is a scam. The passport you may be sent a scan of, is fake. The person you are in contact with is not the person in the pictures, but a black, male, West African, and his girlfriend, or helper.
Don't send money!

ritapinero888@yahoo.com 'Visa and travel' scam from China

So you think you met a cute, young Asian lady on a dating site? Is she asking for help with money for 'visa and travel' expenses to come meet you?
Read the 'Visa and travel' scam section at Dragonladies.org!
All of the these pictures are in use by West African scammers, operating from within China! The girls in the pictures are not involved in the scam, the pictures used are stolen.
The scammer won't show a face on cam, he can't, the pictures are stolen. You are not in contact with the girl in the pictures!
These scammers do have asian ladies who will make phone calls, pretending to be the lady in the pictures. THEY ARE NOT THE LADY IN THE PICTURE. Do not send money! No cute asian girl will show up at your local airport to meet you! THIS IS A SCAM!

Why is it important to run a google search of the email address of a new 'friend' you meet online?

Scammers change email addresses like we change underwear, but doing a search of an email address for a new person you meet online may help you avoid getting scammed.
We try to teach people to post information about scams, and scammers, online. This means many email addresses used by scammers will show up in the search engines.
A scammer generally doesn't easily abandon an email address he or she is currently using for contact with victims, or potential victims. When they do, they will usually claim the email account was 'hacked', or they otherwise lost access to it.
Please, do a google search of the email address for the new person you are in contact with. You may find nothing, you may find many things that don't add up to the story they tell you, or worse.
Thousands of 'baiters' and other anti-scam activists put the information about scammers online for this purpose, to help you, if you bother to look.
You can additionally use other search services, like Spokeo. Spokeo will tell you a lot about real American people you meet on the 'net.
Search anybody by name, e-mail address, phone number, online username or even friends in your address book and instantly return lots of info.

lin.sothe@gmail.com Lin Sothera CAMBODIA

IP: 36.37.161.221
This appears to be a West African scammer, in Cambodia, trying to pull a 'refugee' scam. The IP is correct for Cambodia. You are not in contact with the person in the pictures, claiming to be a Japanese lady in Cambodia.
Dear James
, I am very happy for your quick response to my message. I don't have webcam depending on my current accommodation in Cambodia. How are you today? I hope fine. I am not too good due to my suffering condition here in Cambodia. I am single and never married, 5ft 8 inches tall, 55kg weight, Asian hair and brown eyes. I am of Japanese origin but presently in Cambodia. I do not know anyone in Cambodia and I am residing in a church orphanage home here in Cambodia as a result of the earthquake and tsunami disaster that happened on the 11 March 2011 in north-east Japan. I lost my parents during this deadly tsunami. My family was among the first target of tsunami. My late father was a successful businessman and he has two hotels close to river where the tsunami carried everything away. I am the only person in my family that was not at home because I was at the boarding school in Tokyo. Due to this all my family members including my elder sister were gone in a cold blood and our family houses gone. I was lucky that I escaped death because I was in boarding school when this deadly incident took place. I am the only person surviving and I managed to make my way to Cambodia and this is my first time to visit this country and I don’t know anyone here. I am staying now and never hope to go back to north-east of Japan again, even sometimes I look through the web pages and I cry all day. Below is the link to view the full story. http://www.nytimes.com/2011/03/12/world ... wanted=all I would like to know more about you. Please tell me about your love life, previous and present relationships and hobbies. I will tell you more about myself in my next mail. I look forward to hearing from you soon. Yours, Sothera
This scammer also uses the name 'Tomiko'.
West African scammers are present in many Southeastern Asia nations. They drift there on real and fake visas, pulling shady business deals on locals, and also scamming anyone via the internet.

You must demand to see a face on webcam. This filters out many of the scammers using stolen pictures.
Never send money to somebody you only know from the internet, or phone calls.
The West African scammers in Asia increasingly will recruit a local Asian lady to make phone calls for them, pretending to be the person in the pictures they send, and the story they tell.
Many men have lost thousands of dollars in these scams.
