'Visa and travel' scams from Asia The problem continues

These scams are fairly simple.   Somebody you meet online, wants to come to your country to meet you.  They need a visa, and money for the plane ticket.    Can you guess why this type of scam is called a 'visa and travel' scam?
This type of scam is common from all the major sources of internet romance scams, the former Soviet Union countries, West Africa, and the Philippines.
Within Asia, they are most common from the Philippines, and China, but they can surface from within any SE Asian country, since they are often conducted by West African expats who infiltrate Asian countries on student and business visas, often fraudulent.

Most of these scams are conducted using stolen pictures.   You are usually not in contact with the person in the pictures they use.
The pictures are stolen.   You will never see the face of the person who stole your money, or know the real name of that person.

No matter how much money you send , 'that' person will never show up at your local airport.   If you seem unwilling to  walk away from this scam, these scammers are usually happy to accomodate you, by  coming up with more reasons they need your money.
The fake girl may claim to be held at an airport by officials for some reason, and needs money to pay fines, bribes, replace lost or stolen passports, or plane tickets.

If you are willing to listen, and send money, they are willing to come up with new stories and emergencies.

Currently, many of these scams are conducted by West Africans, operating from within the Guangdong province of China.      They go to China to make money, sometimes doing export trade back to Africa.   Some also conduct scams.

The 'visa and travel' scams they are pulling involves setting up fake profiles for Asian ladies on many dating sites.
The girl will usually be Chinese, or a Filipina, working in China.
The girl is cute, and usually between the ages of  25, and 35.
She will claim to work  at a modest job, often as a nanny, tutor, domestic, or office girl.
They will not show a face on webcam.   They'll usually claim the employer is strict, or they do not have a webcam, and the internet cafe is not close, or in a dangerous part of town.

You are not in contact with the girl in the pictures.  The pictures are stolen.

The scammers enhance the con by having an Asian lady talk to the victim on the phone, pretending to be the lady in the pictures.  (She is not)
She is a local Asian lady who works for the scammers.   At times the voice sounds that of a Chinese lady, others she sound Filipino.     The accent is not always correct for the claimed nationality of the fake lady.

The same 'visa and travel' scam can surface from any SE Asian country, again, conducted by West Africans who are residents of that country.

Another trademark of the West African 'Asian' visa and travel scam is the use of fake travel agency websites in the scam.
The victim will be directed to the fake travel agency site, by the fake girl.
The site was created by the West African scammer, and new fake travel agency sites pop up, monthly.
The fake site will include phony customer testimonials, as well as claims to belong to travel industry organisations.
The sites are totally fake.
There are so many, it's hard to keep up with them.

How do you avoid these scams?

Don't send money!

Learn the real procedures for an Asian lady to get a visa to your country.  The time frame, costs, and procedures these scammers present are total fantasy.    In many situations, a single female from Asian countries, of modest means, is not going to get a visa to western countries, easily.

See a face on webcam, and often.   If they are using stolen pictures, they will have many reasons not to use a cam.    A few scammers will have short video clips of that face, or one similar, to feed over a webcam.   The clip is short, they'll claim cam problems, and most victims are happy to just see a glimpse of the 'right', or 'almost right' face, on cam.

On the right is a screenshot of a webcam during a chat with a West African scammer, who was feeding a recorded video of a porn model over the webcam, and claiming to be that lady.

Keep the age gap reasonable, and are you willing to go to her country to meet her?   If you think you can send money to a lady you meet online, and she will show up at your local airport, you will be scammed, every time.

The West African scammers who pull this scam, from within China, annoy me.   I can see hundreds of profiles they have set up, on many dating sites, but I can hardly put a dent into the damage they are doing.

They keep setting up new fake travel agency sites, which cost money, so
they must be making pretty good money doing this.

The Chinese government does not seem to be too interested in them, since they usually are smart enough not to pull these scams on Chinese nationals.

The 'visa and travel' scams you run into from the Philippines often have the same traits, and may include phone calls from the lady, or somebody pretending to be an official detaining the lady who claims to be en-route to meet you.    Again, the person has not shown a face on webcam, and you will never know who really stole your money.

Are you in contact with somebody online who is asking for money?

STOP.  Don't send it!

Ask for help.

Do your homework.   Most of these scams are easy to avoid.  Many of the scam formats have been used over, and over.   You may also be able to easily determine the pictures being used are stolen, and it's pretty unlikely an asian model or actress is 'in love' with you, after a handful of chats, or emails.

aphroditeworldtraveltours.com worldalliancetravels.com More fake Chinese travel agencies

These fake agencies are operated by West African scammers who are residents of China, usually the Guangdong province.
They use these fake agencies in 'visa and travel' internet romance scams involving fake Asian ladies who they have set up many profiles for on various dating sites.
The fake lady will contact men, profess love quickly, then express a desire to meet him in his home country, but does not have the money for the 'visa and travel'.
The lovesick man willl be directed to one of these fake agencies to pay the fees, which usually total thousands of dollars.
If the man seems overly gullible, he may be asked to pay additional amounts when the fake girl has some problems on the trip to meet him.   She may be detained at an airport for some reason, lose her tickets or passport, or some other incident may occur which needs to be fixed dyby wiring a few thousand dollars.

NO LADY WILL EVER SHOW UP AT YOUR LOCAL AIRPORT!

These scams are a little more effective since the scammer has various Asian ladies working for them who will make phone calls to the victim, pretending to be the la in the stolen pictures.
You are not in contact with the pretty lady in the pictures they use!

The lady will claim to work a low level job, often as a nanny, or other domestic.   They will not show a face on webcam, using many excuses.

The West African scammers have set up hundreds of fake travel agency, and courier websites.  It's impossible to list them all.  New ones pop up monthly.

Do not send money!    The method they suggest to obtain a visa to your country for a single Asian lady of modest means, is usually total fantasy.   You can confirm this by checking with your government agencies.

You can't send money to somebody you meet online, and have them show up on your doorstep.
It doesn't matter if the person is in a distant country, or a few states away.

Home based 'helpers/brokers/translators' who operate profiles on Asian Dating sites.

This is something you need to watch for with profiles for ladies from China, and Thailand.
In China, there are 'translator/brokers' who set up profiles for ladies on dating sites, for payment! The profile and lady may be real, or fake.
If real, the lady in the profile, may not speak any english, the 'translator/broker' may set up the profile, and communicate with the man, pretending to be the lady in the profile. This person will also eventually need to be paid, usually by the man. Who won't be presented a bill until the hook is well set!)
Some of the same happens in Thailand, and possibly VietNam. I do know there are 'brokers' operating for girls in Thailand.
I recently ran into a lady in Vietnam doing the same, whether or not she expects to be paid, or if the man pays, I don't know?
Make sure you are in contact directly with any lady you are interested in! This means, see her on cam, make sure she is the one typing, and also speak to her on the phone.
I've also heard of Chinese ladies, in the US, helping 'friends' back home find Western husbands, online. Sometimes they are transparent, other times, not.
You can't buy these ladies. Many are looking for residency in a better country, and financial security. Some are willing to do anything to get to your country. Too many of the resulting marriages are very short, traumatic, and expensive. BE CAREFUL!

expeditionagency.com Another fake travel agency used in 'visa and travel' scams

This is a 'visa and travel' scam, conducted by West Africans living in China.
They set up fake profiles for pretty asian girls on many dating and social network sites, and fake travel agency sites.
The fake girl quickly professes love for the man she is chatting with, or talking with on the phone, and wants to come to his country. He will be asked to pay thousands of dollars in 'visa and travel' fees for this fake girl. Of course, nobody arrives at the local airport. It's a scam!
The pictures of the pretty girl are stolen. The lady you may talk to on the phone is not the girl in the pictures, but an asian lady who works for the West African scammers. Your money is gone!
These scams, and fake agency sites are pretty easy to detect, and avoid.

Do you realize a majority of the pictures used in internet Romance scams, are stolen?

Most of the pictures used in internet romance scams are stolen, and do not depict the person who is actually scamming you, or trying to!
Scammers steal pictures of anyone, from the internet. Pretty people, plain looking people, and sometimes even ugly people.
If you are serious about finding a new love, using online means, you must see a face on cam, and often. I'm always surprised when I talk to a scam victim who has been in 'love' with a set of stolen pictures for months, and sometimes, years, and never saw a face on live webcam!
I strongly suggest you limit your search to people who are willing and able to show a face on cam, and somewhat often. (Not just one time for a few seconds)
This will help you avoid a majority of the scams where the scammer is using stolen pictures, and occasionally, has a few seconds, or minutes, or recorded video of 'that' face, they can play over a webcam. (Making it appear that person is live, and on cam)
Google the email address, and other data they give you. (name, address, phone number)
Learn to use Google Image search! Check every picture your new friend uses, or sends you. Do you really want to waste time to find out later you have been chattting to a reported scammer, or somebody else using stolen pictures?
DO NOT CONFRONT THE SCAMMER IF YOU FIND INFORMATION THAT SHOWS WHO, and WHAT, they are!
You were already falling, at least partially, for the 'story' they tell. The scammers are somewhat adept at claiming THEY are the victim of identity fraud, also!
You are emotionally attached, they will push your buttons. I've seen too many victims WAFFLE, when sufficient evidence is right in front of them, they are being SCAMMED.
BREAK OFF CONTACT!
It's unlikely you will ever see any of your money back, regardless of what people will tell you. There are also many scams built around your hopes of getting some money back, or revenge on the scammer. You will often be contacted out of the blue by some fake police agency or entity who will claim they can prosecute the scammer, and possibly get some of your money back. This is a scam, and the person doing this is the same scammer you sent money to in the first place.
Don't be a fool!
DragonLadies.org is re-building the 'gallery' of female Asian scammer pictures.
Click here to visit the Dragonladies.org Gallery!
Viewing a large number of pictures like this in the hopes of seeing 'your' scammer is not very productive, but the gallery serves as a demonstration that many of the pictures are stolen, and many of the ladies online who ask for money, are not after love, but MONEY!
Don't send money! Real, decent ladies, will not ask. Don't be a sucker!

What scams may you run into on 'Chinese' dating sites?

What scams may you run into if you are considering finding a Chinese bride, online?
'Pay for play' dating sites. These sites charge men for messages to/from FAKE, pretty Chinese ladies. The messages my be pre-written, or 'generic'. It's not likely the pretty lady in the pictures is actually writing you. Somebody is making money getting you to pay for fake messages. 'Translation' scams. Much the same as the above, but the pitch is for on-site 'translation' of the messages to and from the fake lady. You'll often get steered to sites like this, from other sites. 'My english no goodly. Please go THIS site so we can talk! They have the good translation service!'. You'll pay, and pay, and pay. Some struggling Chinese will appreciate the money they are earning from you, but you are not likely to end up in a real relationship.
More information on 'translation' scams on fraudulent dating sites at Dragonladies.org! 'Translator/brokers', and Marriage agencies. These are agencies or individuals who act as 'marriage brokers'. They'll post profiles of pretty ladies on dating sites, some real, some former customers, and some fake. The goal is to get you to come to China to meet a customer, who is often not the pretty girl in the profile. You spill your heart out in emails with your new sweetie, fly to meet her a few months later, and are met at the airport by the 'Translator/broker' who has actually been reading your gushing messages, and maybe talking to you on the Phone, and are told the 'Girl' is not available or no longer interested. (Even though a few days ago she wrote she couldn't wait to meet you! Actually, the translator/broker wrote that email.) You may be offered a 'replacement' lady, or ushered to an agency office to view some 'prospects'.
Not all is is vain, you say? You may meet an attractive lady who claims she is interested in you? You'll be expected to pay thousands of dollars in 'brokerage' fees, (which may be secret and disguised as something else) and pay the parents a 'bride fee'.
Too often, the goal of the 'bride' is to secure monthly support payments, or trick the man into buying a home for 'them', in China, or the parents.
More info on translator/brokers in China at Dragonladies.org!

'Visa and Travel' scams. These are mostly conducted from within China by West African scammers, who are residents of China. (Usually the Guangdong province). They use stolen pictures of pretty Asian ladies, either Chinese, or Filipina. The girl will claim to work at a menial job. She will not show a face on cam. She will claim love very quickly, and want to travel to meet you. She is 'fake'. You will be directed to pay thousands of dollars via a fake 'agency', to pay the 'visa and travel' fees for this girl to come to meet you. Nobody shows up. Only your money takes a journey, into the pockets of a BLACK male, living in China. They do have the help of local Asian ladies who will make/take phone calls, pretending to be the girl in the pictures. Don't fall for this!
More information on 'Visa and travel' scams from China at Dragonladies.org!
West African scammers also pretend to be anyone, from anywhere, including Asian ladies. Make sure you see a face on cam, check the IP of emails, and don't send money for any reason!

How do you avoid these scams?
Don't use sites where you pay for messages, or 'translations'. There are plenty of real ladies who know some english, and are willing to communicate with you, directly, IF YOU ARE SINCERE and polite.
DO NOT SEND MONEY. Not for 'visa and travel', or anything.
SEE A FACE ON CAM. You want to use cams often. It really helps develop the relationship, and understand the other person.
If a lady avoids using a cam, she may be using fake pictures, or old pictures, showing her much younger, and maybe thinner.
Using translation software is a 'crutch', and should be temporary. She needs to make an effort to be learning english if you will have a chance at a good relationship, and life together. Please avoid ladies who are not willing to learn your language.

You need to be honest, and be looking for a lady of an appropriate age. Real '20 something' Asian girls are not looking for 50-60ish men, unless they have other goals. (Immigration, or money)

Are you really able and willing to go to Asia to meet the right lady? It's not cheap, and not close. You'll need a few weeks of holiday time at the least, but I encourage you to GO. Travel in Asia is a wonderful experience, in itself. If you go to meet a lady who may be 'the one', it's even better. GO. Experience the culture. Eat strange food. See new things.

Romancescamsnow.com has posted a bogus review of asianlonelyhearts.com

AsianLonelyHearts.com is one of the few sites, paid or free, which actually checks new member profiles. There have been no reports of scammers at AsianLonelyHearts. One of the reason AsianLonelyHearts is so 'dead', is we keep the scammers out!
Most people are used to busier, larger dating sites. Many of the profiles on these busier appearing sites are attributable to scammers. Some sites even 'seed' the dating site with fake profiles, to make the site look larger.
Romancescamsnow.com claims AsianLonelyHearts.com is a 'limited site, with many scammers', and gives it a rating of '3'.
They also claim AsianLonelyHearts has 'uncontrolled scammer behavior', which is a blatant lie.
Romancescamsnow.com presents no evidence of scammers on AsianLonelyHearts.com, which should be easy to do, since they claim there are 'many scammers'.

I frequently review dating sites, and post my findings at Dragonladies.org.
Most of these reviews appear here.

Romancescamsnow.com rates three known 'problem' sites as a '10'. chnlove.com, idateasia.com, and charmingdate.com.

As a webmaster, I know these sites pay high commissions to affiliate advertisers.
I also recognize that many scams and other consumer complaints have been attributed to these sites, which are all owned by the same company.

You don't need to take my word for it, check GOOGLE! Let's see what we can find about these sites that romancescamsnow.com rates a 'ten', on GOOGLE.
Let's start with charmingdate.com:
63 consumer complaints at this site:
Scambook

and another: Ripoffreport.com

Here's a complaint about chnlove.com
xchnlove.com on ripoff report

And another, on charmingdate.com:

How about chnlove?:

You can read about an 'agency' for Idateasia.com, that was raided in the Philippines at Dragonladies.org.

The fraud associated with these sites has been discussed on my anti-scam site for years, and precede me setting up AsianLonelyHearts.com.
Click here to see the chnlove/idateasia forum at dragonladies.org

These sites play men for suckers. They charge you membership fees, charge for messages with ladies who are often fake, and allow fraudulent 'agencies' to operate unchecked.
They are good at burying real complaints on the internet in fake glowing reviews, and attacking sites or people who try to expose them.
Romancescamsnow.com may be an agent of these sites, or just some person trying to make money from the gullible men who will spend money at these sites, earning them a commission.

I encourage romancescamsnow.com to identify scammers who are members of AsianLonelyhearts.com!
I check each profile, and probably only approve 1 out of 5 new members. The members I list and post as scammers were never active on the site, they were screened out. They never had a chance to contact a member of AsianLonelyHearts.com! I can only think of a handful of sites, paid or free, that actually do this. It's not that much trouble, but most sites will not spend the time. They are happy to throw up a few disclaimers, and hide behind them.

Romancescamsnow.com has an agenda. They appear to be an agent of these fraudulent dating sites. Some of the scam information they post is legitimate, whether it was copied from other sites, or not, I don't know?
I'm used to the scammers not being happy about the information I post about them. I'm used to threats, even threats of bodily harm.
I have never charged the many people I have helped any fees, and never will. I run AsianLonelyHearts.com with the intention of it becoming an example of how dating sites can be run, free, and safe from scammers. This is a threat to your average dating site operator, who is only interested in making money, with as little effort as possible. I don't expect to make money, although there are some advertising banners on the site I hope will eventually generate a trickle of income to cover the costs of the site.
Do your own research on any dating site you are a member of, or considering joining. Google 'site name scam', and see what you find?
Just remember, some affluent paid sites spends lots of money and effort to plug the internet with fake testimonials, and cover up complaints. They're making lots of money from gullible people, they can afford to!
Never send money to somebody you only know from the internet.
Always expect to see a face on webcam.
Paying for 'translations' on a dating site is not smart, there is too much fraud related to this. If you can't communicate directly with somebody, what kind of relationship do you actually think you will have?

I was involved in anti-scam work before I actually tried online dating, myself. I've met both good, and bad ladies, as well as waded throught thousands of scammers. I continue to plug away at this with the hope I can help a few decent people avoid scams, and maybe find other decent people. If you prefer dwelling in a fantasy world, I can't help you, and it may get expensive!

Rosematch.com Fraud! Fake profiles, 'translation' scams

Rosematch.com is an Asian dating site that features fake profiles, of sexy girls. The site exists only to charge men money for communicating with these fake girls. You will pay for 'translations' of messages to and from the fake lady. The lady, as she is presented on rosematch, does not exist. The pictures are stolen. You are just being ripped off!
Please keep away from Rosematch.com, unless you are very stupid, and have money to waste.
There are real Chinese ladies on other sites who will talk to you directly, know some english, and will show a face on webcam, without you paying for bogus charges.
Rosematch is not alone in fraudulent sites that operate this way. Please don't be stupid. If you have to pay for 'on site' translation of messages through a site, it's often a scam.
Real ladies who are looking for somebody from your country will usually know some of your language, or are learning, and are willing to use one of the various 'free' translation services or programs.
Often, you will get a message from a 'too pretty' Chinese lady, on a different site, who will direct you to Rosematch, to communicate with her, via the paid translations. This is a scam.
For more information on 'translation' scams from China, visit Dragonladies.org

Search anybody by name, e-mail address, phone number, online username or even friends in your address book and instantly return lots of info.

Do you really think a sexy, Chinese girl like the one in this picture, used on Rosematch, is interested in an elderly, American man? This one messaged my 'fake' old man profile at Rosematch.com. The picture is stolen. I could pay for messages with somebody, but it is not the hottie in the picture, but either a pre-written message, or somebody, typing away, making money getting stupid men to pay for messages!

'Female' Internet Romance Scammers from CHINA. WARNING

Guys, this is very important, and you need to pay attention!
There is a serious problem with internet romance scams coming from China, primarily conducted by West African scammers, living in China.
They set up profiles of 'Asian' ladies, typically between the ages of 25, and 35, single, attractive. They usually claim to have a menial, or low level job, and often claim to work as a nanny, governess, maid, or office girl.
They will not show a face on webcam during chat, and will use many excuses.
The girls are fake. This scam is conducted by West African males, with help from some local Asian ladies. These ladies are not the ladies in the pictures they use.
The lady may claim to be Chinese, Filipina, or of other Asian nationality, but generally they will claim to work and live in the Guangdong province of China.
Please, be very careful with Asian ladies you meet online from China, who are 'too young' for your age, too pretty, and too evasive!
Always expect to see a face on webcam.
These scams usually take the form of 'Visa and travel' scams. The fake lady will claim to fall in love very quickly, and want to travel to your country to meet you.
If you send money, no lady will arrive, and you may be asked for more money...and still no pretty lady shows up at your local airport. Don't fall for this.
You may talk to some female on the phone, who claims to be the lady in the pictures. She is not the lady in the stolen pictures, but a local, asian female cohort, of the West African scammer. I've recorded two separate phone conversations with these 'helpers'. One sounded Chinese, the other sounded Filipina.
Do not send money! Real chinese ladies are fairly modest, and do not seek a western man much older than 15 years older than they are.
Use your head, be careful, don't send money.

These are a few pictures of the type used in these scams.  Remember, the pictures are stolen, and the girl in them is not involved in the scam, and not the person you are in contact with!

Is a paid dating site any safer, or better?

I have extensive experience with internet romance scams, and familiar with the workings of many major, internet dating sites, both free, and paid.
I have found most paid dating sites are no safer than free ones.
The keys to a safe site are the willingness of the staff to check new profiles, monitor the site activity, and actually have some knowledge of internet romance scammers, modes, and traits.
While most sites will claim to be safe, they are not.
You always need to protect yourself from scammers, and not assume the site is making any real effort to keep scammers out. They don't!
Screening for scammers takes a modest amount of time, which most sites do not wish to spend.
I find it inexcusable that many sites simply do not care about the safety of the members.
There's no reason to have a site full of profiles with stolen pictures of celebrities, other than to play the members for suckers, and make money from them.
Maybe you are thinking 'this is a free site, how do they make money?'
If you notice on most dating sites, as well as other websites, there are various banner ads. These banner ads pay the site owner for clicks, and/or sales derived from a person clicking on the banner, and purchasing a product or service. This can be very lucrative if you have a high amount of traffic.
More traffic=more money
I have seen many large, dating sites that are full of fake profiles. Fake profiles of pretty people, generate more paying members, or traffic. More paying members, or more traffic=more money.
If the profile is truly fake, you will never get that person to respond to you.
If a profile using a stolen picture responds, or contacts you, you are generally in contact with a scammer!
There is a large network of 'paid' dating sites that have pages of pages of pretty, sexy ladies, all who are fake. A man will join, and get flooded with messages from sexy ladies. To reply to them, he has to pay for each message. The lady is totally fake, the purpose of the sites are to make money by these fake messages. Period. The people writing the messages, and pretending to be the pretty lady in the pictures, is actually a college student, male or female, or other person, making a living writing these messages....OR....the messages are actually 'pre-written'.
Most of us in Western countries would not want to make a living writing messages to lonely men for $1-2 dollars, each, but, for a person in a developing country, where a monthly income of $300 a month is a living wage, making money this way is attractive.
I strongly recommend you avoid most paid dating sites, even if you do not patronize my site.
What do you need to do to protect yourself on any dating site?
Never send money to somebody you only know from the internet, or phone calls!
Safeguard your personal data! (Full name, address, phone number, email account that is connected to your Facebook account, and/or you use for personal business, and family.)
Always expect to see 'that face' on webcam!
I'm always amazed that SCAM VICTIMS can go months or years, talking to a scammer, using stolen pictures, and never expect to see a live face on cam. They'll send thousands of dollars to fake people, and accept the various BS stories about 'No cam' the scammer gives.
If the person can get on the internet, they can use a cam. There are no valid excuses.
Seeing a face on cam is an important filtering tool you must learn to use.
If a person won't show a face on cam, and often, you need to assume they are fake, or hiding something. Be polite, but demand to see a face on cam.
Scammers will come up with many excuses, or ask you to send money to them so they can buy a cam.
Don't do it!

Be careful!

Why should I use a smaller dating site, that is monitored?

Many dating sites inflate the numbers of 'online members', to make the site appear to be busier. This is very common, and easy for the webmaster to do, via the site controls.
Ok, so the site looks 'busy', but in reality, there are much fewer, real people on the site, at that time.
Many dating sites also 'seed' the site with fake members, to make the site look more active, and busy.
Do you know if you want to start a new dating site, it is possible to BUY fake profiles, to 'seed' the site?
I've looked at, and been a member or hundreds of dating sites, either for research, and sometimes as a 'real' member.
Many people seem to be happy with the sites, including many 'paid' sites, that are full of profiles of pretty people, even when the profiles are fake. Wouldn't you rather be a member of a site which is full of real people, you may actually have a chance to talk to?
At AsianLonelyHearts.com, we will screen the new members for scammers, fakes, and 'problem' people, and monitor the activity on the site, without invading the privacy or security of the real people who are members.
I will take the time to do this, which will also mean the site will be slower to grow than most dating sites, and the site will never become a huge, mega site with hundreds of thousands of people, mostly who are fake.
I prefer my members to have a safe experience in internet dating and friendship, and not waste time on fake people or scammers.
